The LTE Toolbox™ product can generate and manipulate signals for the duplexing arrangements specified in the LTE standard. In LTE, downlink and uplink transmissions are organized into radio frames of duration 10ms consisting of 10 consecutive subframes, each consisting of a number of consecutive OFDM symbols, as shown in the following figure.

In terms of symbol structure, one LTE radio frame is made up of 20 of this tructure. As you see here, every OFDM symbol has its own cyclic prefix. Just by simple calculation, you would notice the overhead is around 7.6 % (=160/(160+2014)) in case of the first OFDM in a slot and is around 6.6 %((=144/(144+2014)) in other OFDM symbols.

What is a cyclic prefix The basic concept behind the OFDM cyclic prefix is quite straightforward. The length of the cyclic prefix, CP is important. If it is not long enough then it will not counteract the multipath reflection delay spread. If it is too long, then it will reduce the data throughput capacity.

One time slot is equal to 7 OFDM symbol in normal cyclic prefix and 6 OFDM symbol in extended cyclic prefix.
